FAQ

Q - Can I buy a gun online?

A - Yes.  You can pick out and purchase the firearm online, however the firearm will not be shipped directly to you, but to an FFL (i.e. gun shop) of your choosing in your area. You will then complete the background check paperwork with that FFL.  There are several resources available online to help find your closest FFL, you simply enter your zip code.  Please remember to contact the FFL you want to have the firearm shipped to BEFORE making the purchase as not all FFL's accept incoming transfers.

If you are purchasing online and picking up in store, you simply bring your valid Virginia driver's license (and other applicable ID if required) at time of pick up and will need to complete necessary state and federal forms to get the background check completed.  Transfer of the firearm will not occur before the background check is complete.

Q - Can I come browse your store?

A - There is no store to physically browse.  What we carry is listed in the In Store Inventory section.  Anything else has to be ordered and typically arrive within 2 days (weekends excluded).  If you are interested in purchasing an item from our In Store Inventory, you can certainly come pick it up.  The website is updated constantly and In Store Inventory changes weekly.  If you'd like to see an item first before purchasing, please reach out and schedule an appointment.

Q - Do I need a background check?

Q - What if I fail the background check?

A - If you purchase a firearm, but do not pass the background check, the transaction will not happen and you will/cannot take possession of the firearm.  If payment was previously made, it will be refunded, minus a $5 fee for the background check.

Please note that if you are an out of state purchaser and you do not pass your respective state's background check, you will be responsible for having your FFL ship the firearm back to DC Arms LLC before any refunds can be given.  Shipping fees are NON REFUNDABLE.  RETURN SHIPPING IS AT THE BUYERS EXPENSE.

Q - Can I buy a gun for someone else?

A - That is by definition a "straw purchase" and is illegal.  If we suspect you are purchasing a firearm(s) for someone other than yourself, the transaction will be terminated.

Q - I bought a gun online from another website.  Can I have it shipped to you?

Q - I want to sell a firearm I have to a friend.  Does he need a background check?

A - Yes!  Virginia law now requires background checks on ANY firearm sale.  Private Party sales are still legal, but require an FFL to run the background check.  Both buyer and seller must be present.  Please check out the Transfer Services section of our site for more info.

***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Q - Can I buy more than one firearm at once?

A - Per Virginia law, you may only purchase one firearm every 30 days.  If you have valid concealed carry permit, then you are exempt from this.

Q - How old do I need to be to buy a gun in Virginia?

A - A person must be at least 18 years of age to purchase a rifle or shotgun and a person must be at least 21 years of age to purchase a handgun.

***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Q - I have a gun I'd like to sell.  Do you buy guns?

A - We do, but on a case by case basis.  If we do not purchase your gun, we do offer consignment services.  Please see Consignment in the services section.

***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Q - I bought a firearm and don't like it.  Can I return it?

A - Short answer:  No.  Once a new firearm is sold, it can no longer be sold as a new firearm (much like a car), therefore all sales are final.  However, if you purchase new firearm from us and it is defective, we will work with you to reach out to the manufacturer to see what options they offer under their warranty terms.  If the manufacturer sends a replacement firearm, we will run the transfer free of charge.

If you are unhappy with the firearm you purchased, we do offer a Consignment service if you would like to have it sold or if you find a private buyer we'd be more than happy to facilitate the transfer.  See Transfer services section for more information.

Q - Does my firearm have a warranty?

A - New firearms come with a manufacturer warranty.  All manufacturers have different terms.  Used firearms are only covered with manufacturer warranty if applicable.  Most manufacturers warranty only applies to the initial purchaser, but some companies like Hi Point Firearms extend their warranty to a lifetime warranty regardless of ownership.  Please reach out to your manufacturer for warranty specifics and terms.  DC Arms LLC in no way implies any warranty on any item sold other than the manufacturer warranty.
